In part because it saves you FPs, but mostly because "research a technology" is a common quest, and occasionally you won't want to advance an age immediately. If you don't need a technology, don't research it.Usually, you'll need to upgrade some residences before you can upgrade other buildings, as the other buildings require workers. Of course, the timing and sequence of upgrades depend on what you can afford, what you need, and what you have space for. Goods buildings are a bit different a building from the previous era that you have the deposit province for, will be better than a present era building that you don't have the province for by fair trade standards (two lower adjacent age good equals one higher adjacent age good), you'll get more present age goods by trading up. There's no reason at all to keep old production buildings. The only reason to keep old residential buildings is to allow other players to get blueprints from that era by motivating them. By the time you have reason to use earlier era troops, the cost of these buildings will be nothing to you. You'll find that the two most valuable resources in the game are forge points (FPs) and space higher efficiency buildings are always preferable, and will quickly pay for themselves.Īt some point, you may want earlier era troops, for reasons related to peer versus peer (PvP) or guild versus guild (GvG), but right now you should limit your ambitions.
